A little bit about everything. About ideas I have and things I want to do in life. Putting things out there and giving another perspective. We will see where this path takes us. To Jupiter and Beyond!
Elianna A. Russell Scholarship was created in memory of Elianna Ariel Russell. The name "Elianna" means 'my God has answered me'. Her parent's prayers had been answered when she arrived in this world on August 3rd, 2000. She was the most joyful, vibrant and friendly little girl. She loved music and had a passion for writing and reading. In middle school, she became active in band and played the alto saxophone. She applied and was accepted to become a member of Heritage High school band. Her passion for helping others led her to work in children's ministry at the Church at Covington. After H.S, Elianna chose and was accepted to the College of Coastal GA in Brunswick. Her love for people and all life led her to pursue nursing as her career. She lived a short but full life. With this scholarship, her family wants to keep her legacy by supporting a high school senior band member or a high school senior wishing to pursue nursing as a career in college.
The winner of the 2021 Elianna Ariel Scholarship: Crista Magahas.
Crista is attending California University State Fullerton and pursuing a career in Nursing. She has so many attributes that the committee discussed while selecting the winner: her leadership, her extensive experience in social and community service, clear career goals and plans in helping the elderly and advancing a solution for Alzheimers, and being a community activist at the No Place for Hate committee, do I need to say more?
She is also quite involved in music and certainly using her talents to help in her community. In her essays she shares this experience: "It is the debut of the Lafiguera Quartet, starring myself and my three other cousins on violin. Every Sunday, we visited our grandmother’s home, performing upbeat pop tunes to entertain her. Due to her Alzheimer’s Disease, music became one of the only things my grandmother could comprehend. As her brain slowly deteriorates, music continues to bring her peace, as she viewed our performances as a form of emotional
therapy that relieved feelings of loneliness. But what does this have to do with nursing? A musician, after all, heals with melodies, not antibiotics or operations."
Crista has a clear objective to lobby for Alzheimer's research and to make Alzheimer's a national priority.
Congrats Crista! :-)
