Camilo's First Year

A few special pictures while pregnant with Camilo and his first year!

Our second son supporting the cause for equality and an end to racism from the womb. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ–ค I could not be more proud of him! ✊๐Ÿฝ✊๐Ÿพ✊๐Ÿฟ #20weeks #dueinoctober #blm

Day Date with @corazon_y_alma . I had wanted to fix the frame since we bought this house. I didn't know how, but my husband did and I wanted to learn how to do it. We did it together (including Charlesito using his plastic hammer to get some tiles off). Covid has been a time to really focus on those house projects ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ proud of the outcome on this beautiful Virgin Mary that seemed a bit forgotten and now a more intentional place. We then dropped my son over at my parents house and went to my Godsons first communion. Then we remembered it was 7/11 and got a free slurpee even though 7/11 wasn't running their deal this year ๐Ÿค— Also bumpdate: this second baby is supper chill! Charlesito was too but sometimes I forget I'm pregnant up until I gotta bend to pick something up. I craved mostly salads and fruits first trimester. Passed the 1hr glucose test! I am enjoying and savoring our time as a family of 3 but also excited to welcome a new little one in the fall! ๐Ÿงก #24weeks #7/11

Sometimes I get so overwhelmingly tired. All my energy gone. And I have to stop, and breathe. And remember that I'm sharing my body with this wonderful baby.

It's a miracle.

Getting inspiration for when I need to to go to a peaceful place during labor...Listening to the water, feeling the air in my lungs. We can do this. My body is amazing. We are doing this together son! ๐Ÿ’™

These are overalls that I was not able to put Charles on bc he was already too big. They were too cute and I'm glad Camilo can wear them now. It is too cute to put them in the same little clothes ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

Happy 7 months, Camilo.

Literally, you are the chillest baby ever. And that is crazy to say, bc your older bro was pretty chill too!

Your favorite trick right now is to stick your tongue out!๐Ÿ˜‹ and you have an appetite for anything we give you. You love bananas, kiwi, peaches, avocado... ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿฅ‘๐ŸŒ๐Ÿฅ

Time has gone by so fast...really, 7 months?? ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

So happy you are part of our Family ๐Ÿ˜˜!

No teeth yet to report, but you are army crawling...and sometimes lift your booty up and look like a caterpillar. You love the swings and watching your brother. You love stuffing cheerios and any fruits I serve on your plate. My sweet boy.

My sweet ๐Ÿ˜‡

He would not sleep... he kept turning and tossing...I wasn't sure how to help him... I just brought him with me for a walk. I think he just needed to hear my ๐Ÿ’Ÿ and be in mommy's arms.

Happy 9 months, little Cam.

Cutest little bunny in town ๐Ÿฐ

Has two bottom teeth at almost 10months old. How time flies.

My sweet fall baby is 11 months.

You got your two bottom teeth and I'm surprised how helpful they are for you to eat all sorts of food. You had pumpkin bread this morning and kept requesting more.

You follow big bro everywhere he goes. You love songs and sounds and are obsessed with lids. You crawl all over the place and I'm in no rush for you to start walking bc I'm in a bit of denial that you will be 1 in 1 month.

๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚

Love you.

Elianna A. Russell Scholarship

Elianna A. Russell Scholarship was created in memory of Elianna Ariel Russell. The name "Elianna" means 'my God has answered me'. Her parent's prayers had been answered when she arrived in this world on August 3rd, 2000. She was the most joyful, vibrant and friendly little girl. She loved music and had a passion for writing and reading. In middle school, she became active in band and played the alto saxophone. She applied and was accepted to become a member of Heritage High school band. Her passion for helping others led her to work in children's ministry at the Church at Covington. After H.S, Elianna chose and was accepted to the College of Coastal GA in Brunswick. Her love for people and all life led her to pursue nursing as her career. She lived a short but full life. With this scholarship, her family wants to keep her legacy by supporting a high school senior band member or a high school senior wishing to pursue nursing as a career in college.

Winners of Elianna Scholarship:

Today would have been Elianna's 20th birthday.

We miss her, but know she is with our Lord and in eternal & heavenly peace.

Back in June, with the support of our family, @corazon_y_alma and I were able to award, not just 1 or 2, but 4 High School students from different states in the US.

Winners inlcuded:

Ebonny Moss who will be attending  Prairie View A&M University and pursuing nursing degree.

Lucy Nelson who plans to attend the University of Portland school of Nursing in the fall and upon graduation she plans to pursue a career as an Emergency Room Nurse.

Grace Schultheis who plans to pursue a degree in Nursing.

Grace Armstrong who will be attending the University of California, Berkeley in the Fall and studying studying Environmental Engineering Sciences.

Thank you to all those who applied! We had over 100 applications and read through each one of them. It gives me hope to have so many High Schoolers that are dealing with this pandemic and are still eager to make a positive impact in the world!!

Congratulations to the above winners on going above and beyond to serve your community and to show kindness, courage and love.

I know Elianna is smiling from above!

The winner of the 2021 Elianna Ariel Scholarship: Crista Magahas.

Crista is attending California University State Fullerton and pursuing a career in Nursing. She has so many attributes that the committee discussed while selecting the winner: her leadership, her extensive experience in social and community service, clear career goals and plans in helping the elderly and advancing a solution for Alzheimers, and  being a community activist at the No Place for Hate committee, do I need to say more?

She is also quite involved in music and certainly using her talents to help in her community. In her essays she shares this experience: "It is the debut of the Lafiguera Quartet, starring myself and my three other cousins on violin. Every Sunday, we visited our grandmother’s home, performing upbeat pop tunes to entertain her. Due to her Alzheimer’s Disease, music became one of the only things my grandmother could comprehend. As her brain slowly deteriorates, music continues to bring her peace, as she viewed our performances as a form of emotional
therapy that relieved feelings of loneliness. But what does this have to do with nursing? A musician, after all, heals with melodies, not antibiotics or operations."

Crista has a clear objective to lobby for Alzheimer's research and to make Alzheimer's a national priority.

Congrats Crista! :-)

I don't even know where to start because the more I interacted with Jacy, the more that I admired her!

Jacy spent this past summer as a camp counserlor for inner Eastside Indianapolis Children. In her essay she discusses her battles and goals. Jacy says: "My career goal is to provide quality care to my Hoosier community at Riley Children’s Hospital regardless of race, religion, gender, or economic status. I’ve always loved the idea of being a nurse because nursing is a field of work that provides compassionate care without even a prescription."

Throughout the waiting process, Jacy reminded herself of Jeremiah 29:11 "'For I know the plans I have for you' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future'"

What an amazing reminder!

Jacy is attending Indiana University Purdue University - Indianapolis (IUPUI) and has an has an aspiration to receive a Doctorate of Nursing Practice with dual concentration in Pediatric Acute and Primary Care.

Congrats Jacy!

I am pleased to announce one of the Finalist for the 2021 Elianna Ariel Scholarship, @fiona.watts

@corazon_y_alma and I, along with his family guidance and support created the Elianna Ariel Scholarship in 2020, in honor of Elianna, who passed due to lupus in 2019. We wanted to raise awareness and help High School students going into the nursing field. We have helped 7 students so far!

I enjoy reading through all of the High School applications and knowing that we have bright young minds wanting to make a change. Fiona describes in her essay her hopes for diversity and inclussion in the nursing field, and has volunteered in her Campus ministry and Shane's inspiration. In her essay she says: "As a teen volunteer, I engage with children of all ages and abilities, creating playful and peaceful environments to foster
inclusivity. Run, Walk & Roll events bring over 700 people together to celebrate the beauty of every ability."

Fiona is going University of Iowa this fall to study nursing in their direct entry program. ๐Ÿ™Œ

Congrats Fiona!
